Carolina Panthers QB Andy Dalton involved in car crash

Carolina Panthers starting quarterback Andy Dalton was involved in a car crash Tuesday afternoon in Charlotte, the team said.
Dalton, his wife Jordan and their three children were all in the car at the time. They were not hospitalized or treated by emergency medical responders, according to the Panthers.
The Daltons were traveling westbound on Sardis Road in southeast Charlotte and approaching Providence Road, authorities said. No further details of the crash were released, including whether another car was involved or if anyone else suffered injuries.
Dalton was evaluated by the Panthers’ medical staff afterward, the team said. The quarterback was spotted at Carolina’s practice facility on Wednesday morning ahead of practice, The Athletic reported.
The 36-year-old Dalton — who has also played for the Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints — has started five games this year for the Panthers, taking over for second-year quarterback Bryce Young in Week 3. Dalton led the team to its only win; the Panthers currently sit in last place in the NFC South with a 1-6 record.
Dalton is not the first Panthers starting QB to be involved in a car crash, though the previous incident was more serious. In 2014, Carolina star Cam Newton was hospitalized after a wreck in Charlotte.
Newton suffered two fractures in his lower back in the incident and missed the team’s next game but returned for the final two games of the season. The following year, he won NFL MVP and led the Panthers to their second Super Bowl appearance.
“Somebody is supposed to be dead,” Newton said after the wreck. “It’s great to walk away from something like that.”
